1. TED Talks
You will be asked to pick a TED talk of your choice from http://www.ted.com/. After listening to it you will take notes on its key points in class. Next, you will use the notes to write your own summary (150-200 words). The written summary is then copied and posted to your blog.
The written summary is then recorded to create an audio summary, and the link posted to your blog.
This will be followed by a group discussion in class where you will share and discuss your TED talk ideas in a group. Each student will need to ask and answer questions as well as give a personal reflection of his/her own TED talk topic.
2. PSA Announcement
You will pick a 30-45 second Public Service Announcement of your choice from youtube. You will then transcribe the speech word for word and POST the transcription on your blog. In the second part of this assignment, you will create your own announcement and present it ‘live’ in front of the class. This can also be done as an audio-link instead of live in class. Then post YOUR transcript on your blog to be checked..
3. Interview ??
After finalizing your interview topic and the person you like to interview, you will prepare the questions you want to ask in consultation with your teacher. Once approved, you will have project time to conduct the interview which needs to be video recorded and submitted to your teacher for grading.
4. Presentation
As a follow up from the interview project, you will be asked to make a presentation in front of the class, based on the information you gathered during your interview. There are many ways to make a presentation. You may choose to use the Pecha Kucha method which will be discussed in class.
XXXDebate
You and your group will be asked to pick a controversial debate topic which needs to be approved by your teacher. You will then be required to research facts to support the side that you represent (proposition/opposition). Each member will stand and speak for about 2 minutes, this will be timed and only note cards with brief notes can be used.
Digital Story
You will be asked to consider a current problem (social, health, political, economic, cultural etc.). You will then define, discuss and suggest ways to solve the concerned issue by creating a video documentary. This will be your platform to voice your opinion backed by research, with facts, figures, images and personal accounts. You may use camtasia, i-movie or moviemaker to complete this project. This should be about 5 minutes long.
PPA
“Professionalism, Participation and Attitude” need to be positively demonstrated at all times in class. In addition, attendance is absolutely essential in order for students to complete this course successfully. On-time completion of tasks is mandatory in this course. Anything past the deadline will be awarded a ZERO grade. Part of the PPA grade may also include pop quizzes or any other additional activities assigned by the individual teacher.
